Why She Doesn't #existinphotos
Everyone in the 40's had their Portrait taken. Why? They were going to War. There was a good chance that they weren't going to come back. We have a photo of Grandad, between 18 and 25 off to World War II. Shortly after, 50's 60's, Portraits started to get better. Gals would get a 'Sweet 16', maybe a 21st birthday Portrait. But in that time, it was pretty much Wedding Photography because everyone was getting married at that age.
Time passes, and children are had. Mom becomes last on the shopping list because the first 15 years, she spent photographing her babies. That becomes the large gap of where mothers don't exist in Photographs. She is the same one who 15 years later says, "I just want a beautiful photograph of my family together." Dad can't justify spending $2,000 on Photographs, and says that they have LOTS of photos of the kids. While Mom doesn't have any of her, none with her children, and the family cookout ones that she does, are none that she likes. She becomes the forgotten one. And she's the one who wants them more than anything in the world.
There will be a time where Grandma and Mom will not be with you. And what will you look for? Her Photos. You'll scroll and scroll on Instagram and realize there's nothing but a few birthday photos of her from another time you randomly snapped a photo. I have a large Wall Portrait in my family room of my late Great Grandmother and my mom taken on Christmas day. In my whole home, it is the number one most precious thing.
Moms, Grandmothers who are reading this. Go get your Portrait taken. For you. For your family.
Create a legacy to leave behind for your children, and #existinphotos
